New Linn Selekt DSM
The big Linn launch of 2018 has to be the Selekt DSM. Precision engineered to be a “tactile, interactive” product, Linn claims that the DSM will bring life back into digital music.
Apart from the shape, the most obvious physical difference between this and the other Linn DSM products is the inclusion of a rotary dial on the top of the machine. This allows adjustment of the volume and enables the user to scroll through and select from playlists. There are also six silver buttons on the top of the unit that can be configured (or “pinned”) for various functions.
As is usual for Linn, the Selekt is designed for life, and therefore designed to be upgradeable. Harking back to the days of the original Wakonda and Majik amplifiers, the Selekt can be retro-fitted with “cartridges” to improve performance and functionality as the technology becomes available. Available upgrades in the new year are rumoured to include 5.1 surround amplification, a headphone amplifier and wireless and Bluetooth capability.
Comparisons are obviously being drawn with the Naim Uniti Nova and our current best seller in this segment, the Devialet Expert Pro 140. All are great products and your ears will guide you as to which one is the best for you.
